Squirrel Officers

North England action

Thanks to funding from the Forestry Commission, the UK Squirrel Accord currently has a pilot project covering Yorkshire, Lancashire and County Durham. Building on work by stakeholders and volunteers, our squirrel officers are:

– Expanding the grey squirrel management network

– Establishing new volunteer groups

– Providing training and mentoring

– Offering advice and guidance

This work helps protect broadleaf trees, contributing to national tree planting and woodland creations targets. It also helps red squirrel survival and recovery, supporting delivery of the England Red Squirrel Action Plan.

Get involved

We are looking for organisations, landowners and individuals interested in helping to protect red squirrels and trees in Yorkshire, Lancashire or County Durham. If you are interested in getting involved, please email our squirrel officers who will be delighted to hear from you.
